Oct 31, 2008Media Release - William Osler Health Centre - Urgent Care Centre Oct 31, 2008
William Osler Health Centre (WOHC) is pleased to announce that, in addition to the 24-hour, full-service Emergency Department, a new After Hours Urgent Care Clinic is now open every evening at Brampton Civic Hospital. The clinic is the latest in a series of initiatives focused on improving wait times and enhancing the patient experience in the Emergency Department. The new After Hours Urgent Care Clinic is the best choice for prompt medical attention when an urgent illness or medical ailment arises that is not life-threatening or when a patient is not able to see his or her family doctor. Urgent care settings typically provide treatment for illnesses or injuries such as broken bones, sprains, dislocations, sports injuries, cuts that may need stitches, minor burns, ear, nose and throat problems, coughs and colds, insect bites, allergies, skin rashes, infections and workplace injuries. These conditions are treated in less time in an urgent care setting than in the Emergency Department and often do not need admission to hospital. Since opening on October 7th, the new clinic has already had a positive impact.

Oct 17, 2008News Release - Wait Times Strategy Expands - Oct.17, 2008
Ontario is setting the most aggressive wait time targets for general surgeries in Canada as part of an expansion of its successful Wait Time Strategy. General surgery targets are being set for procedures such as gall bladder removal, hernia repairs, anorectal and some intestinal surgeries. Targets are also being set for orthopaedic and ophthalmic surgeries. Targets for each surgery are set in four categories, ranging from urgent to elective surgery. Where urgent surgery is required, targets are less than 24 hours for general and ophthalmic surgeries and one week for orthopaedic surgery.  For all three surgery groups, cases of mild or occasional symptoms and elective surgeries, targets range from 12 to 26 weeks. Current wait times are below the provincial target in all three areas. Ontario is also investing $11.64 million in funding for 8,240 additional general surgery procedures to help ensure that these times remain on target.
