As many as 1.6 million adults in Ontario suffer from mood, anxiety, substance use or gambling problems. In the Central West LHIN census data shows that about 2% of the population suffers from a serious mental illness. In cases of people with mental health issues, it is estimated that 29% also show tendencies towards substance abuse.Mental health and addiction services were identified in the Central West LHIN as a client priority during community discussions and surveys that were used to develop our inital Integrated Health Service Plan (IHSP). Nov 7, 2008Bulletin #18 - Long-Term Care Residents to Benefit from Increased Funding
Long-term care residents living in the Central West LHIN will benefit from increased access to personal care thanks to a recent injection of $1.07 million into the community by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. The monies are part of a provincial nvestment of $23.3 million to create 873 new personal support worker positions in long-term care homes across Ontario.“Access to quality health care, when and where it is needed, continues to be a focus for this government,” says David Caplan, Minister of Health and Long- Term Care. “This latest investment will contribute to strengthening staff capacity in the long-term care sector, which ultimately means more bedside care for residents.” The funding will be distributed among 23 long-term care homes across the Central West LHIN generating more than 78,000 hours of additional personal support care time for long-term care residents in 2008/09. There are currently 3,313 long-term care beds in the LHIN.
